Designer Barbara Lazaroff understands the classic such as Spago Beverly Hills as well as the whimsical. Her designs include Felliniesque Chinois, underwater fantasy at Granita, and the masculine cyberworld she created at Eureka brewery and restaurant.

Barbara has garnered many accolades for her innovative and singularly unique and forward-thinking restaurant designs as well as for her showcase rooms such as Greystone, Frette, and her elegant home design.

dinnerware logoBarbara Lazaroff's Flame of Life, inspired by her original poem, was the centerpiece element gracing Spago Beverly Hills. As a Spago patron you'd be familiar with this elegant curved flame carved into the chairs and bar stools, emblazoned on the Spago carpeting, etched into the glass kitchen wall, and elsewhere in Spago.

A portion of each sale supports a good cause like Meals on Wheels and other non-profits Barbara has supported in the last 30 years.

The limited edition 16-piece fine china set is service for four in four vivid colors, each displaying The Flame of Life and one of the poem's inspirational lines.

Spago's 30th Annual Seder
benefiting Mazon, A Jewish Response To Hunger


This will be the 30th year Spago will host a Passover Seder benefitting Mazon "A Jewish Response to Hunger."

Guests of all backgrounds will enjoy an exceptional Seder as they dine on Sederan amazing traditional Seder menu prepared by Spago's excellent chefs. (As in these photos of last year's Seder, there will again be special Passover decor by CR&A Custom Banners. They transform Spago Beverly Hills with "Chagall-like stained windows" perfect for this holiday.)

As Barbara explains: "I began the tradition at the original Spago Hollywood as a means to bring the Jewish community together on this special holiday, as well as share it with those of different faiths. I believe that if we all share our traditions, myths are dispelled and communication is sparked, leading to better understanding and tolerance for all cultures. Also there is such a profound need in Los Angeles. So many go hungry every day; elders who miss many meals and children who go to school unable to concentrate."

On Thursday evening, Barbara was one of the judges of the NEWH Fashion Challenge, Design in a Box Fashion Event.

On Friday, day two of Boutique Design West Trade Fair, Barbara participated on the Women Leaders in Hospitality panel — a conversational forum for visionary women executives from all sectors of the hospitality industry. Panel participants are designers/architects, owners/investors, vendors and consultants/researchers.

Rather than formal presentations, this was a discussion about issues and trends, challenges and opportunities. It's more like a TED mini-conference than a panel. 14 questions will be addressed — and this is just one:
What are the biggest issues hospitality designers, operators and investors will face over the next 24 to 26 months? How are the business strategies to address those issues changing? What are some intriguing micro trends?

Note that the full BD West conference included Thursday, March 20th as well.

Barbara also gave away two of her Flame of Life Dinnerware sets at the conference.

86th Academy Awards, aka The Oscars

First there was The Hollywood Reporter's Oscar Nominee party at Spago Beverly Hills — and then the big night, the Academy Awards presentation in Hollywood. And for the 20th year, after the award presentation Wolfgang Puck catered the official after-party — the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Governors Ball. Two hundred chefs took part to make the star studded gala happen.

Citymeals Lunch 2013
27th Annual Power Lunch for Women

The Power Lunch for Women is a popular event; a spoof on the concept of the power breakfast conceived by Citymeals Co-Founder Gael Greene and then board member Joan Weill. It has grown into a networking imperative for the city’s most influential ladies and the handful of generous men who pay $10,000 for the privilege of joining them.

Award-winning journalist and host of "Katie” Katie Couric, emceed to help honor dedicated Citymeals supporter Betsy Bernardaud, Citymeals founding board member Donald Tober, and artist, humanitarian and founder of the Cicely Tyson Foundation Cicely Tyson. Guests will enjoy a special performance by Cyndi Lauper, winner of an Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award.
